This exhibition is timed to coincide not only
with the statewide Maine Print Project, but also with the “Arts
in the Community” weekend sponsored by Main Street Bath. Artists
include: Susan Amons, Nina Bohlen, Crystal Cawley, Frank Chin, Yvonne
Jacquette, Alan Magee, Susan Newboldt, Stephanie Rayner, Alice Spencer and Susan
Webster.
In keeping with our mission as a community art resource, there are
two other components to our offerings. First, our exhibitors will be
invited to participate in our popular ongoing lecture series, Sunday
Art Salon, during the exhibition time frame. We will also offer workshops
led by exhibitors as well as local artists to our members and community
members who are interested in exploring the medium. Pieces created
in the workshops will be displayed in adjacent gallery space as well
as in gallery space in adjoining communities. This will take the artwork
and knowledge of the medium to community members who might not come
to lectures or workshops.
As a follow up during the spring of 2007, we will conduct more monotype
workshops, and focus on creating a community print-making installation
as an exercise in affirmations. During the workshops, a series of standard
sized prints will be completed focused on a theme of affirmations.
The finished works will be installed in The Chocolate Church Arts Center
Gallery, and individually hung from the ceiling, creating a space of
reflection and appreciation—a “Community Portrait.”
