The Center for Maine Contemporary Art presents Maine
Printmakers:
1980-2005 from October 21 to December 16, 2006. The exhibition
includes nearly 250 editioned intaglio, relief and planographic prints
created over
the past 25 years by 225 artists. Works were selected by invitation and
from
a general call to artists between June and December, 2005.
A statewide seminar is set for Saturday, October 21 from 1:00-3:00
PM at the Rockport
Opera House.
David Becker, author of the book The Imprint of
Place: Maine Printmaking 1800 - 2005 offers the keynote address,
followed by a panel discussion, "Printmaking and the Collaborative
Process"
with Anna Hepler and Robert Indiana, artists; Pat Nick, founder and
director
of the Vinalhaven Press; Peter Pettengill, owner and master printmaker
of
the Wingate Studio; and moderated by
Alison
Ferris, curator of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick. A
public
reception from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. marks the opening of CMCA's Maine
Printmakers: 1980 - 2005.
Additional educational programs by and about Maine printmakers and
printmaking techniques are organized for school and public presentations
by CMCA education director, Cathy Melio.
CMCA also presents Vinalhaven Press Prints from the Bowdoin
College Museum of Art Collection from October 21–December
