In conjunction with the Maine Print Project, the College of the Atlantic’s Blum Gallery will show the work of Mt. Desert Island printers and printmakers. Small-press works will be drawn from the 20-year output of the Printing Office at High Loft in Seal Harbor, a private press founded by a summer resident, August Heckscher, who worked with local artists and apprentices. On exhibit will be bound books in large and small formats, all illustrated with woodblock, linocuts or engravings, mostly by permanent summer residents of Mt. Desert. A selection of larger framed prints associated with the illustrations will also be displayed, as well as unrelated work by Mt. Desert artists such as Richard Estes.
