The Irvine Gallery of Art at River Tree Center for
the Arts will present The Art of Printmaking, an exhibition
that celebrates printmaking in Maine and educates the public about
several different printing mediums and methods. To this end, several
prominent
southern Maine printmakers have been invited to display their work,
with an estimated 65 works to be shown. Each artist will represent
a particular medium: Don Gorvett, woodcuts; Beverly Hallam, monotypes
and digital media; Dewitt Hardy, lithographs; Nancy Davison, etchings;
Kate Chappell, monotypes and collographs; Michael Walek, etchings;
and Joel Seah, silkscreen prints.
In addition to The Art of Printmaking in the Irvine Gallery
of Art, an exhibition of The Kennebunk Historic Print Project will
be on display in the neighboring Performance Hall exhibition space.
Extensive research has been undertaken by Kennebunkport residents,
Dr. Jerome Collins
and his wife Monique, to uncover the history of printmaking in the
Kennebunks. Jerry and Monique, with the River Tree Center for the
Arts Gallery Committee,
will install an illustrated timeline of this rich history. The Brick
Store Museum, the Kennebunkport Historical Society, the Unitarian
Church, the Kennebunkport Library and many other organizations from
within
and outside Maine, have all joined with River Tree Center for the
Arts in
this research project.
River Tree Center for the Arts will host several lectures, workshops,
classes and educational opportunities as part of the The Art
of Printmaking to further expand the knowledge and experience
of our audience. Arrangements with area schools for class tours
and demonstrations will be encouraged.
