The University of Maine Museum of Art will present
exhibitions that highlight the efforts of two of the state's most revered
artists. Richard Estes: Prints and John Marin: A Print Survey will
be on exhibition from October 20 through January 13, 2007. Both exhibitions
will draw from the museum's important collection of prints, which was
established in 1946, as well as loans.
Both Estes and Marin utilized the city in most of their work in print
media; their long associations with the state of Maine clearly informs
their work. In each exhibition, the museum will present a survey of
the artist’s work. For Richard Estes this means prints made from
the early 1980s to the present; in John Marin's case the survey will
present works from his early efforts in Paris during the first decade
of the 20th century through his late prints of the 1940s, focused on
images of Maine.
