The Art Gallery at the University of New England will offer a retrospective of the prints of John Muench, who was Artist-in-Residence at Westbrook College from 1976 until 1980, as well as Founder and Director of the Maine Printmaking Workshop. The prints demonstrate his broad influences, among them John Taylor Arms, Jacques Mourlot, and Marc Chagall. From Maine to New Mexico, from figurative landscape to highly abstract conceptions, and from technical precision to wild improvisation, his artistic contributions to Maine and to printmaking excellence globally have inspired this celebration of his work from the 1940s through the 1980s.
